Princess Charlotte of Cambridge has been christened overnight in a private ceremony at St. Mary Magdalene church at the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
In a touching tribute, it is the same church where her namesake and grandmother, Princess Diana, was baptised 54 years ago.
The Princess was christened in a handmade replica of the Royal Christening Robe, made by the Dressmaker to the Queen. The original Christening Robe has now been preserved.
News.com.au reports that in accordance with tradition, Princess Charlotte was christened by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby using an incredible valuable 170-year-old silver font, which is normally kept with the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.
Duchess Catherine of Cambridge wore a cream Alexander McQueen coat to the ceremony and pushed tiny Charlotte in a vintage pram. Meanwhile, Charlotte’s brother George remained as adorable as ever – even giving a big wave to the crowd as he toddled along clutching his father’s hand.
Prince George wore a traditional romper suit incorporating red shorts – an outfit nearly identical to one worn by his father Prince William almost 30 years ago.
Wills wore the similar outfit to meet his little brother Harry for the first time in 1984.
The Queen and Prince Phillip were in attendance at the christening, as were Prince Charles and Camilla, Michael and Carole Middleton and Kate’s sister Pippa and James. Prince Harry had to miss the affair, as he’s in Africa on a conservation mission, news.com.au reports.
