Ever wondered when the words we use all the time first appeared?
New words are ‘born’ every year – and by ‘born’ we mean added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
With so many acronyms and abbreviated words floating around, and new phrases coined every day (hello ‘Netflix and chill’), it’s hard to imagine a time when ‘TV’ or ‘Internet’ didn’t exist.
Some words are surprisingly recent with ‘Bromance’ added to the OED in 2001 and ‘Bling’ in 1999. And ‘Frenemy’, was surely coined in the 21st Century? Turns out we’ve been smiling through clenched teeth a lot longer as the word was added in 1953.
